Syracuse University and Emisphere Technologies Inc. Research Agreement
Syracuse University and Emisphere Technologies Inc. have entered into a research agreement to combine Emisphere's proprietary Eligen® oral drug delivery technology with a new oral drug delivery system developed in the laboratory of Robert Doyle, associate professor of chemistry in SU's College of Arts and Sciences. The experiments will test whether the combination of Eligen® and Doyle's oral drug delivery technology will enhance the absorption of an appetite-suppressing hormone. » full story

Remembrance Scholars Announced
Congratulations to Amy Rabideau who was honored as one of 35 undergraduate students to be a 2009-10 Remembrance Scholar. The award is considered the most prestigious scholarship awarded by the University and is a means of remembrance for the 270 people who were killed in the December 21, 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, of which 35 SU students were aboard. Amy is a rising senior chemistry major who does research in the Doyle Group. This summer, as an Amgen Scholar, Amy will be doing research at MIT on bioprobes with Dr. Barbara Imperiali. » full story

Norma Slepecky Undergraduate Reseach Award
Undergraduate Kelly Whitenack has been honored with a Norma Slepecky Undergraduate Research Student Awards at the Norma Slepecky Memorial Seminar. Kelly was nominated by her advisor, Prof. Jon Zubieta, for her project titled "The Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Microporous Hybrid Organic/Inorganic Materials with the Potential of Hydrogen Storage." She will graduate this May with a degree with distinction in Chemistry.

Welcome New Faculty
We are excited to welcome new faculty members Dr. Ari Chakraborty and Dr. Daniel Clark to the Chemistry Department. Ari, a theoretical/computational chemist, completed his doctoral work at the University of Minnesota and his postdoctoral research at Penn State. Daniel is an organic chemist whose background includes doctoral studies at SUNY Buffalo and postdoctoral work at the Max Planck-Institut in Mülheim.
