Baldwin Receives Prestigious Award from ACS
Congratulations to Prof. John Baldwin, who has been selected as the 2010 recipient of the James Flack Norris Award in Physical Organic Chemistry by the American Chemical Society. The acclaimed award acknowledging his significant achievements in research will be presented in March during the 239th ACS national meeting in San Francisco. Ruhlandt Named Distinguished Professor
Karin Ruhlandt-Senge, professor and chair of the Department of Chemistry in Syracuse University's College of Arts and Sciences, was appointed Distinguished Professor by Vice Chancellor and Provost Eric F. Spina. Distinguished Professor is one of the University's highest honors for faculty whose exemplary leadership in teaching and research has advanced the University's scholarly mission.   » full story

Dabrowiak Authors Metals in Medicine
Metals in Medicine, a new textbook by Professor Dabrowiak, describes metal-based agents for treating and diagnosing disease. The text, published in November of 2009, distills the essence of this important topic for undergraduate and graduate students in chemistry, biochemistry, biology and the related areas of biophysics, pharmacology, and bioengineering, and for researchers in other fields interested in getting a general insight into metals in medicine.   » more info

CARTI Grants Awarded
Professors Luk, Sponsler, and Maye from the Department of Chemistry and Professor Ren from the Department of Biomedical Engineering have recently been funded through an award from Collaborative Activities for Research and Technology Innovation (CARTI). The funding allows for an integration of organic chemistry, laser holography, and nanoscience to design real time detection mechanisms for toxic agents in aqueous solution.
