The research interests of my laboratory lie at the interface of chemistry and biology. Using synthetic chemistry and biochemistry, we try to determine how microorganisms construct complex biologically active molecules. We then try to take advantage of these biosynthetic pathways to produce complex natural products and their analogs. This provides us with the necessary compounds to develop enzyme inhibitors, study mechanisms of action, or determine structure-activity relationships.
